Being an Academic Peer Tutor for the Academic Resource Center can be a challenging and rewarding experience for you! Recognized by faculty and administration, peer tutors are important individuals who develop positive learning skills in our students while sharpening their own academic and content skills. In addition to this recognition, it is a great experience to add to your resume! Peer tutoring also offers many other great benefits, including recognition at honors convocation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain scheduled tutoring hours for the duration of the semester and academic school year
  • Acquire the skills necessary to tutor successfully in face-to-face tutoring sessions as well as with collaborative sessions
  • Meet training requirements throughout the semester as instructed by the director
  • Engage in marketing and promotional activities as scheduled throughout the school year
  • Maintain accurate tutoring records throughout the school year
  • Assist with the development of various materials including center forms, handouts, and marketing materials.
  • Perform various center-related tasks as assigned by the director

Requirements

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • A/B average in subject matter tutored
  • Faculty recommendation
  • Successful completion of interview process

  • Certification - Certification is presently offered at two levels by the College Reading and Learning Association.
  • Travel - Tutors have an opportunity to attend and present at the New England Peer Tutor Association Spring Conference.
