Work-study: A Job On or Off Campus That Puts Money in Your Pocket
Federal work-study is available to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA form. Each year the college receives a certain allotment of funds to pay students to work part-time position on or off-campus during the academic year. Students can earn up to the awarded amount per year. Funding for federal work-study is limited and therefore, students who complete the FAFSA by the priority deadline will receive priority consideration.
The wages earned serve to supplement everyday expenses and are not credited toward your student account. Work-study is an earnings potential and you are paid based upon the hours you work.
At Elms College, jobs opportunities are posted outside the financial aid office and e-mailed to eligible students who in turn set up interviews with campus offices and academic divisions to fill open positions. Students have worked for the following departments in the past and new opportunities arise each year:
- Athletics
- Admissions
- Information services
- Facilities
- Marketing
- America Reads (off-campus)
- The Library
- Various academic departments
Students new to federal work-study are required to provide a copy of their social security card and driver's license or birth certificate to complete the required federal W-4 and I-9 forms, as well as the Massachusetts M-4 form. The financial aid office will have packets available at the beginning of each school year.
