Meet Our Staff

John Keller

Vice President of Student Affairs
110 Mary Dooley College Center
413-265-2210 | kellerj@elms.edu

John Keller, who joined Elms College in July 2009 as the vice president of student affairs, promises to focus on challenging students to grow and develop while providing them with a "supportive safety net." John will supervise student services ranging from athletics to residential life.

"John's experience and leadership will contribute to the educational experience of our students in a significant way," said Elms College president Mary Reap, IHM, Ph.D.

John most recently was vice president for student development and dean of students at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana. He previously was director of student development and director of residence life at Minnesota State University's branch in Akita, Japan; and director of resident services at the University of South Dakota. He has also held positions in student affairs at Kent State University, Ellsworth (Iowa) Community College, and Shippensburg University.

"This is a challenging time for small, private, enrollment-driven institutions, and I am looking forward to applying what I've learned throughout my career to the benefit of the Elms community," John said.

He has a master of science degree in counseling from Shippensburg University, and has completed doctoral work in education administration at Kent State University.

"We need to be challenged in order to grow and learn, and sometimes the challenges students face may seem overwhelming," he said. "One of our primary tasks as educators is to push and stretch students to develop new and increasingly more sophisticated life skills while providing them with a supportive safety net. Balancing this ‘challenge-support' ratio is the key."
