International Studies and Business

The interdisciplinary international studies and business major incorporates international studies, foreign language, and business courses. An internship is required with a foreign company located in the United States or abroad.

The major provides an integrated approach to understanding the historical, economic, social, and political interactions affecting peoples, cultures, nations, and trans-national business companies.

The international studies component focuses on cultural issues that lead to a grasp of historical, sociological, political, and economic conditions in the global community.

The foreign language component is essential, because true access to a culture and a people is through their language. Twelve credits beyond the intermediate level are required.

The business component prepares you for a professional career track with broad global perspective.

You can further enhance your education through international experiential learning, including short-term and semester-long opportunities for study and travel in Japan, China, Greece, London/Paris, and Ireland.

Elms College is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), which allows you to take advantage of the partnerships IACBE maintains with business schools around the world, such as student/faculty exchanges with IACBE member institutions.
