Planning for Your Career Starts Now
For Students
The career center is your direct link to the Opportunity Network, which is a searchable database for students and alumni looking for full-time and part-time jobs, and internships. Even in today's economy, employers are posting new jobs and internships on the Opportunity Network every day.
To choose a career that is right for you, you should assess your interests, skills, and values, explore a variety of options, focus your choices and then implement a well-thought-out plan of action.
Creating a career plan may seem daunting, but our abundance of resources will help. All undergraduate and graduate students and alumni can use the services of the career center, which include:
- Individual appointments with a career advisor
- FOCUS-2 Computerized Guidance System (access code: blazer), which is an online, interactive career & education planning system that combines self assessment, career exploration, and decision making into one comprehensive program. You can explore occupations and majors matching your assessment results. To log in to FOCUS-2, click here.
- Workshops or personal assistance in designing a résumé and cover letter, and searching for jobs and interviewing
- Access to the college's online Opportunity Network for employment and volunteer listings
- Information on graduate schools, including entrance requirements
- Mentoring and networking with alumni
Many majors require an academic portfolio. Portfolios are a valuable tool for students of any major to assess their growth and development and eventually to market themselves to employers. The Career Center assists students in creating these portfolios.
The Career Center is open from mid-August to mid-June. Please contact the center for specific dates.
For Alumni
The average person changes careers three or four times throughout his or her lifetime. As an Elms College alumn, the Career and Experiential Learning Center is available to help you throughout your career as you pursue your educational and employment goals. The same services available to current students are available to our alumni.
For Employers
Elms College recognizes your need to hire well-prepared workers who can deal with the challenges and rapid pace of change in today's world. Our graduates make outstanding employees in many fields, especially education, business, health and allied health, human services, and communications.
Our curriculum is designed to educate the entire person, create problem solvers, and train skilled professionals. Elms graduates have developed the capacity for critical thinking, the ability to communicate effectively, an understanding of the technologic basis of modern society, and an appreciation of the arts and humanities. In short, they are ready for anything.
We provide opportunities for employers to actively recruit our graduates, such as listing current internship or job openings.
