The Institute for
Theology and Pastoral Studies
The Institute for Theology and
Pastoral Studies at Elms College
(established in January 2002) integrates the academic study
of theology with support for people engaged in, or preparing
for, ministry. It was founded in response to a growing need
for programs designed to explore the intersection of faith,
culture, and reason in our lives, and furthers the mission
of Elms College as a liberal arts institution with historic
and continuing ties to the Diocese of Springfield.
ITPS sponsors and coordinates education, worship, and service
programs within the Catholic tradition. Candidates for the
master’s of arts degree in applied theology (MAAT)
at Elms College are mentored by faculty under the auspices
of the ITPS. The Institute also offers noncredit certificate
programs in theology and pastoral studies, and invites ministers
in the vicinity to participate in programs for a minimal
fee.
