Master Of Education (M.Ed.),

This program is an enrichment degree designed to promote the professional development of experienced teachers and community leaders.

The degree offers teachers wide flexibility to plan programs to meet their professional needs and goals. The course of study provides the student the option to expand her/his expertise in education and in certain academic fields. Completion of the program requires 33 credit hours. The master’s thesis is optional. Two additional electives may be taken in lieu of the thesis.
The program is composed of the following three parts:

  • Education and liberal arts electives
  • A core of required courses focusing on thinking skill development, diversity
    issues in schooling, educational technology use, and research-based
    pratice
  • An optional research-based master’s thesis

Minimum at Elms College: 24 credits/Minimum G.P.A.: 3.0
Requirements 33 credits

  • EDU 503 Thinking Skills in the Classroom
  • SOC 580 Racial and Ethnic Groups or
    SPA 512 Hispanic Cultures in the United States
  • EDU 516 Introduction to Technology in Education or
    EDU 716 Advanced Technology for Educators
  • EDU 610 Research and Professional Practice
  • EDU 590 Master’s Thesis or Two Additional Elective Courses
