Admission Requirements
The graduate programs in education seek applicants
with strong undergraduate
academic records and a strong motivation to work with,
or enrich work with,
children and young people. Applicants should have obtained
a grade point
average (G.P.A.) of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) upon completion
of the undergraduate
degree. Two professional letters of recommendation
and a one-page professional goal statement must be
included with application materials. Candidates for
admission to licensure programs must submit passing
scores on the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure
(M.T.E.L.) communication and
literacy skills (morning session) and appropriate subject
matter test (afternoon
session).
Application Process
Serious delays in processing applications for admission
may be caused by the
length of time it takes for transcripts and recommendation
forms to reach
admissions. To expedite an application, please follow
up original requests for
transcripts and recommendations after about three weeks.
It is the applicant’s
responsibility to see that transcripts and recommendations
are furnished for the
application file. The graduate education admission
committee reviews
completed application files, applicants are interviewed,
and applicants are
notified of the results as soon as possible. Applications
are evaluated
throughout the year. For information regarding the
status of an application,
contact the Admission Office at (413) 265-2238.
