Internship Opportunities
Many employers seeking paralegals prefer
those with previous work experience, but how can students
acquire that experience? One answer is participation
in the internship program. The Paralegal and Legal Studies
Department aids qualified students in obtaining a guided,
practical internship in a practice area of interest to
them. (Only students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative quality
point average are eligible for the internship program.)

On the job activities include the keeping
of a daily experience log and the written submission of
a final project. Throughout the term of the internship,
the student has contact with a full-time faculty member
to ensure that the internship experience is beneficial
to all involved. Students may choose from an extensive
list of internship opportunities through the departrment
or seek their own internship site pending department approval.
Past placements have included not only large and small
law office settings, but banks, insurance companies, government
agencies, the courts, and the District Attorney's office.
This invaluable experience helps to better prepare students
for the job market, by giving them the practical experience
so many offices seek when hiring new paralegals. |
