Transitional Bilingual Education

Education graduate students can earn a masterís in teaching (M.A.T.) concentrated in Transitional Bilingual Education (T.B.E.). This 36-credit degree requires students to have at least an initial teacher license, at least one year of teaching experience under that license, and successful completion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) for transitional bilingual education.

 

Program requirements are:

  • SOC 580 Racial and Cultural Groups in the U.S.
  • SPA 502 Hispanic Culture
  • EDU 647 Bilingualism and Applied Linguistics
  • EDU 652 Issues in E.S.L./Bilingualism
  • EDU 654 Methods in Teaching E.S.L.
  • EDU 513 Current Approaches to Reading and Language Arts
  • EDU 516 Intro to Technology for Educators
  • EDU 703 T.B.E. Initial Practicum and Seminar
  • EDU 560 Beginning Reading and Writing
    or
    EDU 614 Developing Reading and Study Skills in Content Area
    Two electives.
