Accelerated BA/MBA at Elms College
Our undergraduate students can choose to pursue a combined BA/MBA accelerated degree program in either the accounting or healthcare leadership concentrations. The BA/MBA in accounting is a four-and-a-half year, 150-credit program for accounting majors; the BA/MBA in healthcare leadership is a five year 156-credit program for business management or healthcare majors.
This model allows student to decide at the end of their junior year to participate in the MBA program. After the student graduates with a bachelor's degree in four years, they can work full time and go to school one night a week, and finish the MBA one year after undergraduate graduation.
We offer three concentrations within the MBA: accounting, healthcare leadership, and management.
First year Elms College students will be conditionally accepted into the accelerated program if they have a high school GPA of at least 3.25 and a combined SAT score of at least 1,000. They must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 overall and in accounting courses to remain in this rigorous program.
Students who were not business majors as undergraduates must complete these foundation courses in accounting, economics, marketing, and management. These courses can be taken as weekend college courses at Elms College, Holyoke Community College, or transferred from an accredited college. Students need to have successfully completed one semester of these courses with a grade of "B" or better.
Students who earned an undergraduate degree in business and received a B or higher in these foundation courses can begin the MBA program without re-taking these courses.
Admission to the MBA program is based on several criteria, including both quantitative and qualitative aspects of academic and professional background.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. They are typically reviewed within three weeks of submission. The application can be completed here.
All graduate degree candidates must have completed a bachelor's degree program with a GPA of 2.75 or better at an accredited United States college or university, or its equivalent in another country. Applicants must submit:
- GMAT scores*
- Graduate application and $30 application fee
- Official transcripts of all previous college academic work
- One-page personal goal statement
- Two letters of recommendation
*GMAT scores are valid for five years. The admissions committee will consider waiving the GMAT requirement if the student holds an Elms College undergraduate degree with a GPA of 3.0 or better, or holds a graduate or professional degree.
MBA Accelerated Foundation Program
For students who would like to pursue an MBA but do not have an academic business background, we offer an accelerated foundation program. It's an 11-week course that provides an overview in accounting, finance, management, marketing, law, and economics. It is offered twice a year - once in the summer and once in the winter session.
Students must satisfactorily show a basic knowledge level on a comprehensive business exam at the end of the program or repeat it, or take accredited course(s) in the deficient subject(s).
