Dr. Janeczek is a former elementary bilingual (Spanish) and English-as-a-second-language (E.S.L.) teacher. She has also served as western regional administrator for bilingual and E.S.L. programs for the state of Massachusetts. Her interests include language acquisition, E.S.L. methodology, and cross-cultural communication.

Joyce Baker is a literacy coach in the Springfield public schools. Her area of interest is content area literacy at the middle/high school level.

Carlene Bannish is a literacy coordinator for the Westfield public elementary schools. She is the literacy coordinator for grades 3-5, and also teaches fourth grade. She is also a former bilingual (Spanish) teacher. Her interests lie in the fields of literacy and multiculturalism.
Her expertise in this field has led her to be a frequent presenter and coach at conferences on this important issue. She has published an article in the Accelerated Schools Project national newsletter analyzing the relationship between ASP and Literacy Collaborative.
Ms. Bannish's work earned her the Grinspoon Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international organization of women educators.

Ms. Cotter is a teacher of students with moderate special needs. She has worked in a variety of inclusion settings, and also has experience as a pharmacy technician. Her special interest lies in the area of helping all teachers more effectively accommodate students with special needs into their classrooms.

Jack Czajkowski joined Elms College in the summer of 2009. Prior to teaching here, he had been director of teacher education at the Smith College Department of Education and Child Study in Northampton for two years. In that capacity, he developed and implemented student-teacher support programs, forged connections with local schools, and initiated outreach with other institutions.
He also has been an instructor in the secondary teacher preparation program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst since 1996, where he teaches core program classes to graduate students.
Before joining Smith, he was a science and language arts teacher for grade 7 students at the Great Falls Middle School in Montague for 12 years, and taught high school courses at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield.
Jack is a test content reviewer and scorer at National Evaluation Systems in Hadley, where he assisted in the development of MTEL tests for middle school science and elementary general curriculum. In addition, he is a workshop developer and presenter for the Western Massachusetts Writing Project, where he helped develop MTEL writing test preparation workshops for non-native speakers, and taught writing in science workshops for local teachers.
He currently serves on the introductory physics MCAS assessment development committee of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He received the University of Massachusetts School of Education Rising Star in Education Award in 2008.

Sr. Ann Daly has extensive experience in education. She has taught all subjects on the elementary level, English on the secondary level, and English composition on the collegiate level. Her specialized interest is in the teaching of writing and women's voice. As director of the Academic Resource Center, Sr. Daly is responsible for the tutorial needs of the college. Her other interests include women's studies, poetry, and social justice issues.

Dr. Harrison has been an educator for more than 30 years. Former academic dean and vice president for academic affairs at Elms College, she has taught elementary grades at the Smith College Campus School, worked as an educational software designer, and for the National Coalition for Equality in Education. Dr. Harrison is particularly interested in multicultural education, social justice issues in schooling, and innovative ways to help children and youth master concepts and skills in mathematics.

An advocate for young children, families, and teachers, Dr. Stetson has been a preschool and primary grade teacher in New York City, San Francisco, New Jersey, and western Massachusetts as well as a day care director. Her research interests include brain development and learning, and she is committed to public policy initiatives that support universal health care for families, high quality educational programs for young children, and just wages for parents and teachers.

Dr. Young has taught at the elementary level, has been a special education teacher at the secondary level, and has been a reading consultant for grades K-12. She has also served as a curriculum coordinator of English language arts, K-12, for a public school district in Massachusetts. Her special interests include the development and assessment of language and literacy, learners with special needs in these areas, and research-based instructional practices.
