Manhattan Virtual Classroom
All professors at Elms College are able to put course
information on-line through the "Manhattan Virtual Classroom ", a Web-based server software program for
on-line teaching and learning. It can be accessed any
time of day or night by students, whether they are on
campus or across the country. Professors may post information
such as course syllabi, required book lists, lectures,
homework assignments, contact information, discussion
boards, to augment their on-campus classes,
or offer complete courses on-line.
Academic Resource Center
The academic resource center provides all of the
academic support services at Elms College. These
include tutoring
in many of the majors offered at the college, study
skills assistance, and services to students with
physical and
learning disabilities. The director of the academic
resource center is also the disabilities coordinator.
The academic resource center is open for tutoring five
days a week, and offers assistance to any student (graduate,
undergraduate, full time, part time). At present, tutorial
help is provided by both peer and professional tutors
in the areas of biology, chemistry, communication sciences
and disorders, education, mathematics, nursing, paralegal
studies, psychology, and writing. Student tutors are
recommended by their department chairs and receive
extensive training for the first six weeks of the semester
to ensure
that sound pedagogical practices are employed during
the tutorial session. Additional writing tutoring,
coordinated by the academic resource center, is available
at night
in the library. The tutor in the library is available
four nights a week, including one night on the weekend.
Tutors also assist students with study skills such
