Financial Aid for Graduate Students
We recognize the fact that financing a graduate education is a significant investment for students and their families, but especially in today's economy, an advanced degree just might be your ticket to a stable career.
While it is the responsibility of the student to pay college expenses prior to the beginning of each semester, Elms College is aware that many families may require financial assistance. Students anticipating the need for financial aid should submit a complete financial aid application by the priority-filing deadline each year. Awards are based on demonstrated need.
Financial aid is not renewable, so students must reapply for aid each academic year. That also means if your financial circumstances remain unchanged from year to year and you meet the priority-filing deadline, the financial aid package should contain approximately the same amount of aid.
Changes to family financial circumstances come in many forms:
- increases or decreases in overall income
- the number of family members in the household
- the number of family members in college.
Applying For Financial Aid
A complete financial aid application consists of the following:
- A completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA This form may take four to six weeks to process. The Elms College code for FAFSA is 002140. If you have provided the Elms College code, the Department of Education will forward an electronic copy of your completed FAFSA to the college. Students may apply on-line at fafsa.ed.gov.
The financial aid office reserves the right to request additional information.
Determination of Financial Aid Eligibility
All students must be accepted for admission to Elms College before aid eligibility will be determined and awarded. Financial need has no bearing on your admission to Elms College.
Elms College awards federal financial aid to graduate students on the basis of demonstrated financial need. A federal formula is utilized in calculating a family contribution based on information provided on FAFSA, along with all of the required supporting documentation. The expected family contribution is based on a review of the family's resources from expected taxed and untaxed income along with assets such as savings. The family contribution is deducted from the student's cost of attendance resulting in the family's need. The amount of need a family demonstrates determines the amount of assistance the student may be eligible to receive.
