Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

This C.A.G.S. in ASD program is one of the first of its kind in the nation.

We offer the C.A.G.S. in ASD both with and without practica.

The C.A.G.S. in ASD degree without practica is appropriate for individuals who do not intend to seek BCBA certification

The C.A.G.S. in ASD degree with practica is appropriate for individuals who intend to complete additional practica and apply for BCBA certification.

This innovative program is the
result of a partnership between the
Elms College Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the River Street Autism Program of the Capital Region Education Council in Hartford, Connecticut.

This partnership will offer a true research-to-practice experience, allowing students to practice the science-based strategies learned in the classroom with children with ASD in a real school setting.

Applicants to this program are not required to hold a degree in communication sciences and disorders; all undergraduate majors will be considered.

Admission is on a rolling basis.

Without Practica (30 credits)
This program will provide an opportunity and a path for social workers, nurses, agency administrators, and other professionals (who may or may not work directly with children with autism) to earn an advanced degree in this specialty. It is appropriate for individuals who do NOT intend to seek certification as behavior analysts.

Course requirements include eight specific courses (21 credits) in CSD and ASD and two specific courses (6 credits) in education;* and a least 3 credits of electives***.

 

With Practica (36 credits)
This program is designed for people who work directly with children with autism, and/or who intend to complete additional practice following graduation and apply to become board certified behavior analysts (BCBA).

Course requirements include eight specific courses (21 credits) in CSD and ASD and two specific courses (6 credits) in education;* two practica (6 credits);** and a least 3 credits of electives****.

 

*CSD 630, 634, 670, 672, 675; ASD 604, 605, 610; EDU 519 and 620.
**CSD 676 and either 677 or 678.
