Section III Part 1: Organizational Goals and Objectives
During its planning meetings in November, December, and January, library staff established the following list of goals and objectives:
1. Library staff will improve communications internally and externally.
1.1. The director will hold regular library staff meetings.
1.2. Library staff will enhance the library newsletter.
1.3. Library staff will enhance the library website.
1.3.1. The director and systems librarian will streamline the home page for intuitive use by off-campus patrons.
1.3.2. The reference team will begin use of LibAnswers for chat purposes.
1.3.3. Working with IT, the systems librarian will create IP recognition for on-campus, campus-wide access.
1.3.4. Working with the director, the systems librarian will redesign the library's home page so that it includes updates on events, classes, and workshops.
1.4. Library staff will begin using social media to engage students.
1.4.1. The library will have a Facebook presence.
1.4.2. The library will have a Pinterest presence.
1.4.3. The library will have a Twitter presence.
1.5. Library liaisons will communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the larger community about new resources and developments.
1.5.1. The director will create a liaison program.
1.5.2. The reference team will create a series of resource specific lectures, three days a week.
1.5.3. The reference team will create a partnership with public libraries to educate patrons.
1.5.4. The director will create a brown bag series to discuss library issues.
1.5.5. The director will create an author series for faculty to discuss their research and connect with a librarian.
2. Library staff will more efficiently use physical, financial, and human resources to enhance and aid teaching and learning.
2.1. Library staff will redesign the library's physical space to better meet the needs of the college.
2.1.1. Working with the director, the head of reference will create a Learning Commons and/or Student Success Center.
2.1.2. The director will address issues revealed in LibQual+ 2011 report by creating both individualized study spaces (enforced quiet areas) and collaborative learning environments.
2.1.3. The systems librarian will work with IT to increase the number of computer terminals in the library proper.
2.1.4. Library staff will create useful functional spaces, such as a laptop charging area and a print journal reading area.
2.2. The reference team will evaluate all purchases for efficiency.
2.2.1. The liaisons will get faculty involved in the demonstrations and trials of new products.
2.2.2. The director will communicate with faculty on how existing products may be redundant.
2.2.3. The reference team will look for more cost-effective products.
2.2.4. The library director will invest in back-end products which make collection analysis feasible and/or more efficient for the systems librarian.
2.2.5. Library staff will create an aggressive marketing campaign via the library liaisons to increase usage of resources.
2.2.6. The director will remove impediments to better resource usage.
2.3. Library staff will take advantage of professional development opportunities through webinars, workshops, and conferences.
2.3.1. Library staff will maintain and improve needed technical skills.
2.3.2. Library staff will maintain and improve resource and information knowledge.
2.3.3. Library staff will maintain and improve professional skills, such as time management.
2.3.4. Library staff will maintain and improve interpersonal skills.
