An Italian Adventure
An audience with Pope Francis was among the special moments on the Elms alumni getaway to Italy last month:
The June 10-19 trip, which included Elms President Mary Reap and dozens of alumni, began with a five-day exploration of Florence, then excursions to Siena, San Gimigiano, Lucca and Pisa, concluding with a three-day visit to Rome.
Along the way, there were architectural, artistic and gourmet delights galore, from visits to the Colisseum, to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence to see the Renaissance masterpiece sculpture David by Michelangelo (among many other treasures), to the Vatican, where they attended the Pope's General Audience and got up close views of Pope Francis, and to Fattoria il Poggio, a reknowned winery that follows ancient traditions to produce some of the best vino and olive oil in Italy.
