Massachusetts State Geographic Bee
Elms College will welcome 100 students of elementary school age through eighth grade and their families from all over Massachusetts as the National Geographic Bee comes to campus for the first time. The winner of the Massachusetts State Geographic Bee, a statewide competition, will move on to compete in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, DC, in May, where the grand prize is a $50,000 college scholarship.
Registration begins at 9:30. At approximately 10 a.m., opening remarks will be given by Elms College President Mary Reap, Mayor of Chicopee Richard Kos and Massachusetts Geography Bee Coordinator Sarah Duncan. Students will then be split up into individual competition rooms on campus (not open to the public), where the field will be winnowed to the Top 10 finalists.
The campus event culminates after lunch, from approximately 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the finalists competing in Veritas Auditorium in Berchmans Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
