The Office of Information Technology services and supports the academic and administrative computing needs of Elms College.

The Office, which is located at 35 Gaylord Street across from the Mary Dooley College Center. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Computer Labs

The college has 4 computer labs available to all students. These labs are used for classroom instruction and for student drop-in use. The lab located in the Mary Dooley College Center is dedicated for use as a drop-in lab, and is available 24 hours a day.

The remaining labs are used for classroom instruction, and two of them are available as drop-in labs when not in classroom use. All of the labs are equipped with laser printers and full access to on-campus computing resources and Internet access.

The college provides students with online access to grades, schedules, and enrollment information through a system called Blazernet, and also to financial aid information.

The college also maintains an online course management system called Manhattan, which is used by faculty to supplement in-class courses and to provide online-only courses.

All Elms College students are provided with a college email account, and are required to check that account for college notices and announcements. Elms College student ID is required to use any of the computer labs.

Help Desk

Please leave a message detailing your technology question and someone will return your call as soon as possible. In the evenings a computer lab monitor is available in the Berchmans Hall computer labs to assist you with basic computing questions. You may phone the computer lab monitor at ext 224.

Wireless Information

Resident Halls
All residence halls are now using a wireless network connection.

Elms recommends that if you do not have a WiFi card in your computer that you purchase a “dual-band” card for your computer. This will give you the best download speeds.

We recommend that you purchase a PCI card for desktop machines and/or a PC Card for a laptop. While a USB wireless adapter should work, you will get better performance from a card.

The following cards have been tested and work with Elms new wireless system. Other cards/adapters will work, its just that the following cards have been certified by the equipment manufacturer.

Troubleshooting

If your PC does not automatically detect our “Student” wireless network the most common reason is that the wireless card is disabled. To enable it, find the wireless card properties, here is how in to do this for the Windows XP operating system:

  1. Find My Network Places icon either on the desktop or click on Start and find it in there.
  2. Right click on My Network Places and select “properties”.
  3. This will display your various network connections, find the wireless one.
  4. If the wireless is disabled right click on it and select enable it.

NetReg Information

Elms uses a computer registration program in the dorms. You will be directed automatically to the registration page when you try to attach your computer to the wireless network in the dorms and open your web browser. Registration is required to be able to identify you as the registered owner of your computer if necessary.

When attempting to attach to the Elms Wireless network you should look for the “Student” wireless network.
