Alumna Makes Businesswest 40 Under Forty List
BusinessWest, a business journal of western Massachusetts, runs an annual 40 Under Forty list, featuring a who's who of the region's up-and-coming business and community leaders. This year, Elms College congratulates Melyssa Brown '03 for making the list.
As a board member, treasurer, and active fundraiser at Girls, Inc., Melyssa recalls attending their summer camps as a kid and the impact their philosophy had on her. "Girls, Inc.'s motto is 'Inspiring all girls to be smart, strong, and bold' and I try to be that way everyday." Melyssa stressed the necessity of instilling these values in young women and how important it is for her to pass them on through the work of Girls, Inc.
As manager of the Auditing and Accounting Division at Meyers Brothers Kalicka, P.C. (their youngest manager in that division), Melyssa became involved in Link to Libraries, whose co-founder Susan Jaye-Kaplan's husband works at Meyers Brothers Kalicka, P.C. Link to Libraries other co-founder, Janet Crimmons, is also an Elms alumna. In addition to Link to Libraries and Girls, Inc., Melyssa is involved in Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, Springfield Boys and Girls Club, and mentorship programs at Elms College and Westfield State University.
Melyssa said that making the 40 Under Forty list was one of her goals and it is a privilege to be a part of the selective group.
