Enactus Bring Community, Awards, and a Little Green to Brendan Reed

Tue Apr 9, 2013

This was the first year Enactus came to the Elms campus and its impact has already reached thousands of citizens in the Springfield area.

Formerly known as SIFE, Enactus derives its name from the words "entrepreneurial", "action", and "us." Enactus consists of students, faculty, and business leaders who are committed to the power of entrepreneurial action to enable human progress.

Since community is one the core values of Elms College, Enactus provides the perfect opportunity for students looking to create positive change at the local level. Students are provided with a list of local businesses and what they want to accomplish. Students then contact the business of their choice and begin developing a marketing plan.

Students like Brendan Reed '13 apply business concepts to develop community outreach projects that transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. Brendan's project involved starting a speaker series on community issues at a local business, Sal's Bakery, in Springfield. He was then invited to present at a regional competition in which he was one of three winners in his league and named Rookie of the Year.

"Just being able to present was validation for all the work I did but winning the awards was totally unexpected," Brendan said.
