First HCC and Elms Cohort Graduates

On Saturday, the first cohort from the Elms College/Holyoke Community College Degree Completion Program left the MassMutual Center with feelings of pride, relief, and most importantly, their bachelor's degrees in hand. This year's class of 21 students included five accounting and information systems majors, six business management majors, one accounting and information systems and business management major, and nine psychology majors. The recent graduates work for such employers as The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Arbor House, the Department of Transitional Assistance, Webster Bank, and HCS Head Start. Many of them will be continuing their education at Elms College through the MBA program.

These students, many of them balancing full-time jobs and families, sacrificed eight hours of their lives every Saturday for 20 months to earn their bachelor's degrees. The accessible but demanding schedule speaks to the perseverance of each student who passed the rigorous program. Thanks to the support of their families, peers, faculty, and especially the cupcakes Anne Carson brought in for her classmates every Saturday, they were able to earn their degrees and move on to their next steps in life.
