Mission and Vision

The mission of the School of Nursing is to provide high quality education for professional nurses at all entries of practice. The School of Nursing prepares baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral level nurses to enhance the health of persons within communities and the larger global environment. The School of Nursing stresses excellence in teaching, service and practice.

The baccalaureate program prepares graduates to be professionally competent generalists in nursing who are committed to excellence in nursing practice, value continued personal and professional development and possess the educational foundation for post-baccalaureate study. The master's program prepares nurses for advanced roles and provides the educational foundation for doctoral studies in nursing. The Doctor of Nursing Practice program prepares post-baccalaureate and master’s prepared registered nurses for the terminal practice degree with advanced, specialized knowledge and skills to meet the health needs of diverse populations within clinical settings as advanced practice nurses.

Through disciplined inquiry into the liberal arts and sciences, nursing theory, research and practice, all graduates are prepared to respond to health care needs of a diverse society with compassion, knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to continuously improve the quality and safety of the healthcare system within which they practice.

The School of Nursing strives to be a community of nursing scholars and educators who, in keeping with the mission of Elms College, challenges students to embrace change without compromising principle, to respond creatively to the demands of their chosen careers, and to advocate for people in need.  Elms College is a community rooted in faith, educated in mind, compassionate in heart, and responsive to civic and social obligations that inspires lifelong learning and creates knowledge to improve the health of others.
