Caring for Others: It's the Elms Effect
The service trips to Honduras and Jamaica are amazing. They give me the chance to work with the needy and learn their ways of life.
Service has taught me to respect and care for all people, regardless of culture or class. It has taught me to appreciate what I have and to share intangible things with others: a helping hand, a caring smile, or a shoulder to lean on. No matter where you are, service surrounds you; it's just a matter of your willingness to help.
I chose to attend Elms because it was close to home and I knew they offered a prestigious program for teaching. The people here are friendly, and your professors not only know you by name, they know you at a personal level as well and are always willing to help.
I decided to become a special education major because I've always felt the happiest when working with the disabled. Becoming a special ed teacher will give me the opportunity to do something I love.
