"I think it is essential for anyone going into the sciences to take part in research as an undergraduate."

Researching with Faculty: It's the Elms Effect

The biology research program was a great learning experience for me. I enjoyed science in high school, so I felt that majoring in biology at Elms would be a great fit. During my junior year, I decided to double major in chemistry, because it would give me more options for a career or graduate program.

I was attracted to the size of the Elms campus, and I enjoyed the small classes, which allowed for individualized attention from my professors. By being so deeply involved in a research program, I gained valuable skills such as critical thinking, and as a captain of the cross-country team, I learned the importance of working with a group and leading by example.

I am pursing my master's degree in nutritional science at the University of Connecticut. I was offered a position as a research assistant in a lab that studies antioxidants and the mechanism in an effort to help prevent heart disease and related conditions.
