The 16th annual Polish Film Festival will be held on consecutive Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in Alumnae Library Theater on the Elms College campus. The festival is co-sponsored by the Kosciuszko Foundation New England Chapter and Elms College and is free and open to the public.
The festival begins Wednesday, Oct. 4, with Marie Curie: The Courage of Knowledge. This film about the physicist and chemist – the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize – follows her struggle for recognition in the male-dominated science community of early 20th century France.
On Oct. 11, In Search of Chopin will give a superb account of the driven artist, with internationally known pianists providing Chopin’s music as a background to the documentary’s narration.
Polish Squadron 303, showing Oct. 18, is the story of the most successful squadron of the Battle of Britain, as told through the eyes of two of its veteran pilots.
On Oct. 25, Moje Corki Krowy (These Daughters of Mine), is a bittersweet family drama about two sisters who reunite with their domineering father to confront their mother’s illness.
The festival concludes on Nov. 1 with Powidoki (Afterimage), the story of charismatic avant-garde painter Wladyslaw Strzeminiski.
All Polish films will have English subtitles.
