Storozynski authored a riveting memoir that has won high praise for its blend of personal discovery, hidden history, and Cold War intrigue.
Chicopee, MA — The Kosciuszko Foundation New England is honored to present Alex Storozynski, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of Spies In My Blood: Secrets of a Polish Family’s Fight Against Nazis and Communists, on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, at 2 PM at Alumnae Library at Elms College in Chicopee. The event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by Elms College.
Raised in New York City by World War II exiles, Storozynski grew up surrounded by secrets of espionage and survival. His father fought in the Allied invasion of Normandy, while his mother was forced into a Nazi slave labor camp. Despite family pleas to remain silent, his lifelong quest for truth led him deep into archives, interviews, and even behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War.
In Spies In My Blood, Storozynski reveals extraordinary discoveries including a paternal grandfather who ran a 1930s spy ring using chimney sweeps to gather intelligence against the Soviets; a father who became a World War II spy; a maternal grandfather who commanded tanks and assassinated German officers during the Allied invasion of Italy; Communist secret police files that labeled Storozynski and his brother as “Rocky and Nemo”; and a brother’s deathbed confession of work with the CIA on perilous Cold War missions.
Storozynski’s memoir has earned high praise:
“Alex Storozynski has been on a relentless quest to uncover the secrets of his family’s past. The result is this immensely readable and informative book.” — Andrew Nagorski, Award-Winning Newsweek Foreign Correspondent. And this
“Storozynski delivers unique and vital perspectives on Poland’s modern history…all the drama, tension, and tragedy come through forcefully.” — David Tereshchuk, The Media Beat, PBS and NPR.
