As former president and chief executive officer at Health New England, Maura McCaffrey led a $1B system-owned health plan as part of an integrated healthcare organization serving people throughout Western Massachusetts. Health New England is located in Springfield, Massachusetts, employs more than 400 people, and provides health care coverage for over 210,000 members.
McCaffrey has a bachelor of science degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Rhode Island, and a Master of Business Administration degree in healthcare administration from Anna Maria College. She completed executive education programs at both the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Babson College in Massachusetts, where she has also served as a mentor in the Babson Executive Women’s Leadership MBA program. She also served annually as an executive mentor for America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).
McCaffrey has served in a multitude of board roles including chair of the Western Massachusetts Economic Development Council (EDC), board secretary for the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans (MAHP), the executive committee of the Health Plan Alliance, and as member of the Western New England University Board of Trustees.
McCaffrey was inducted into the Baypath University Women Business Leaders Hall of Fame in 2015, was recognized as the 2014 Business Woman of the Year by the Western Massachusetts Women’s Magazine, and was proud to be a 2014 Go Red Leading Lady for the American Heart Association.
She lives in Central Massachusetts with her husband and two sons.
