We want to help you make the most of your first year of college.
The ASPIRE Connect program helps first-year students successfully enter college life. By pairing new students with a peer mentor, ASPIRE Connect creates opportunities for open discussion about anything — and everything — related to the campus experience.
In your first semester, you will meet with your peer mentor every week, just to talk about how things are going. Academics, social life, being away from home — anything is fair game. Your mentor is available to you as a sounding board, ready to listen to whatever you have on your mind. Best of all, they will help you figure out a plan to overcome obstacles and find your footing.
ASPIRE Connect also invites new students and their mentors to a variety of social events and workshops throughout the fall semester. These events give you a chance to make friendships with other first-year students while also gaining valuable skills that you’ll use throughout your time at Elms.
The semester-long program includes:
- Meetings with peer mentors to set goals and discuss your progress throughout the semester.
- Presentations on topics such as public speaking, improving writing skills, and boosting math skills.
- Trips together off campus.
Once spring semester arrives, students are encouraged to continue meeting with their peer mentors as needed.

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in becoming peer mentors are encouraged to email Dr. Joyce Hampton, Dean of Student Success and Strategic Initiatives, at email@example.com.
