I’m originally from Houston, Texas, but I came up here to attend Elms College. My dad had heard all sorts of good things from his friends who had kids who attended here, and I did some research and found that people had nothing but really good things to say. I really liked the small class sizes. I really liked the reviews of the professors and how friendly everybody seemed. It really has a community feel.
The biology program here is great. I had a lot of support from my professors with any questions I ever had or when I struggled with classes. Everything is explained really well. The professors all know what they’re doing. They’re good at the job.
I’ve had a really great experience pursuing my degree in biology. Because of the small class sizes, you really feel like you’re friends with your professors. They know you by name. They get to know you very well, very quickly.
Elms College was the most attractive school to me because of its community feel, small class sizes, and personalized attention.
I’m on the pre-medical track. One of the reasons I chose Elms College is its partnership with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine for the early acceptance program. The program allows me to bypass the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), and I can focus more closely on my GPA, exams, and grades. I don’t have to tailor my resume or application in a specific way. I can gather experience working in the clinic or volunteering to the extent I want, and I don’t have to feel pressured to make it look a certain way.
It’s a non-traditional path, but the Early Acceptance Program has been a part of what made my own college experience so great.
I’ve been thinking of a career in pathology for the longest time – ever since I was little. I’ve always been good at science, and so, growing up, I thought it would be a great way to spend my life if I could use that skill to better the community and the lives of people around me. I enjoy learning about the human body, anatomy, and physiology. I’m also very interested in diagnosing various diseases. I think it’s really fascinating.
I really enjoy working in the lab independently. When I’m down there, I’m typically on my own. The idea of learning by yourself is a little bit scary at first because you’re afraid to mess up and make mistakes – but that’s the best way to learn. I was nervous at first, but I’ve learned I really like it. If I ever have a question, my professor is one email or one text away.
Elms College is really everything I thought it would be, and more. With all the support here, all the friendships you’ll build, and all the professors and the faculty and staff that you’ll get to know, there’s really no problem that you’ll be enduring alone.
