Which experiences qualify for funding?

  • An internship related to your major, field of study, and/or career interests
  • A research experience with a faculty member at an academic institution
  • A local, national, or international mission trip or service trip
  • A study abroad opportunity

Who can apply?

Everyone — first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. However, if you are pursuing an opportunity at an external organization, they might have restrictions related to class standing. Be sure to read the position description carefully.

How often can I apply?

Students can submit multiple applications throughout the academic year. Funding can only be granted once per academic year, however.

When is the deadline?


The application deadline for funds to be used in spring and summer 2019 has passed. Please check back in the summer for information about the next disbursement period.

What else do I need to do?

After completing your learning experience, you will work with a faculty member or staff member to develop a presentation for the Experiential Learning symposium, to be held near the end of the spring 2019 semester.

Eligibility criteria

  • You must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate Elms College student at any campus location.
  • You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher at the time of application.
  • You must have an offer letter for your learning experience prior to applying for funding. (Students participating in mission trips through Elms do not need to provide a letter.)
  • You are free to submit multiple applications, but funding can only be awarded once per academic year.
