Anna earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, minoring in Computer Science and Data Analysis. She now works as a data analyst for Wells Fargo

Having earned my associate’s degree at Holyoke Community College, I chose to pursue my bachelor’s degree at Elms College. Originally, I aimed to become an Actuary, but the pandemic prompted a rapid reassessment of my academic and career goals. Exploring different possibilities with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, I saw Computer Science and Data Analytics as viable options for breaking into the tech field with a promising salary progression. I decided to minor in each.
Transitioning to Elms from community college, I met Professor Beryl Hoffman, whose guidance streamlined my academic journey. She analyzed my community college transcripts and provided a personalized roadmap for the courses I needed to take each semester to earn my degree.
I took my Computer Science classes with Professor Hoffman and found she had an exceptional ability to explain complex subjects in a simple, step-by-step manner. She is highly supportive and knowledgeable. What stood out to me was her responsiveness and willingness to assist with any issues related to understanding the material or completing homework. Even in a remote learning environment, the quality of education remained exceptional.
Professor Hoffman serves as a great advocate, offering valuable help and resources. With a keen eye for recognizing potential in every student, having her support during my education made it a more personalized experience.
With her recommendation, I participated in the Elms Career Fair, where I secured an internship as a cybersecurity analyst. This internship, combined with my education, prepared me for my job at Wells Fargo.
During the first year at Wells Fargo, in addition to regular duties, analysts undergo a technical boot camp. Surrounded by analysts from larger universities, I stood confidently, proving that the quality of education at Elms stood shoulder to shoulder with big universities.
