Elms College is proud to announce that Dr. Tyra Good, founding Executive Director of the Center for Equity in Urban Education (CEUE) and Associate Professor of Education, has been named one of MassLive’s 8 Leading Higher Education Leaders in Massachusetts.
At Elms College, Dr. Good leads the CEUE, which is dedicated to increasing both the number and diversity of qualified and licensed educators and school leaders through culturally responsive practices. The center offers bachelor’s and master’s degree completion pathways for full-time non-licensed educators, as well as professional development opportunities for educators across the region.
Additionally, Dr. Good’s work of creating equitable university, school, family, and community partnerships led to the innovative framework approach for the creation of the Western Massachusetts Literacy Collaborative (WMLC). This is a partnership between Elms College, Springfield Public Schools, and other institutions aimed at improving literacy outcomes for K-12 students.
Dr. Tyra Good reflected on this announcement, “It is a distinct honor to be recognized among Massachusetts’ leading higher education leaders. This acknowledgement reflects the collective work of Elms College’s Center for Equity in Urban Education to prepare diverse educators and ensure all students have access to equitable, high-quality literacy instruction through strong educational partnerships.”
The list recognizes dynamic leaders across the Commonwealth who are shaping the future of higher education and addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing the field of higher education. Selected through extensive research and interviews by MassLive’s higher education reporting team, these leaders are making significant strides in ensuring education remains a catalyst for opportunity and equity in a rapidly changing landscape.
