Elms College along with American International College, Bay Path University and Westfield State University, joined with Springfield Public Schools to form the Western Massachusetts Literacy Collaborative (WMLC) to improve literacy rates amongst school aged children, PreK-12.

Dr. Harry Dumay, President of Elms College, and Daniel Warwick, Springfield Superintendent of Schools are scheduled to speak about the formation of the literacy collaborative as an example of what can be accomplished when different educational constituents come together for a common goal. There will also be a showing of the documentary “Right to Read,” a critically acclaimed 2023 film that presents the need for literacy in a democracy as a civil rights issue. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion involving education faculty, school administrators, teachers and parents on the impact of WMLC’s summer literacy initiatives to address issues highlighted by the film. This event is free and open to the public!

The Education Town Hall will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm in Berchmans Hall Rotunda at Elms College. Parking is available in Lot B.
