Learn the Business of Coaching
Coaches serve as dynamic leaders, mentors, and motivators for athletes of all ages. The coaching minor at Elms teaches you how to combine your love of sports with charismatic interpersonal communication skills and strategic vision.
Students interested in coaching explore the process from multiple vantage points, discussing the psychology of sports; physiology, health maintenance, and conditioning; and coaching methods. Your classes will give you a holistic understanding of coaching, so you’re prepared to do everything from planning tryouts to motivating your players to succeed.
Level Up With a Season-Long Internship
The coaching minor culminates in a 3-credit internship where students work directly with a mentor coach over an entire sport season. This capstone experience is invaluable for students eager to apply what they have learned in real time. Students who have completed the coaching minor have worked with teams in a variety of sports, including volleyball, field hockey, soccer, basketball, softball, and lacrosse.
