The Reserve Collection is located on the first floor of the library behind the Circulation Desk. All reserve items must be requested at the Circulation Desk. The reserves contain materials designated by college faculty as high-use or required readings for specific courses. These materials may include books, articles from periodicals, audio/visual materials, or special items loaned by faculty.

Eligible Borrowers

  • Any registered Elms College student possessing a valid Campus ID
  • Any Elms employee possessing a valid Campus ID

Restrictions on Use

Borrowing periods  are determined by the faculty member who placed the material on reserve.

Library Use Only

Library Use Only items can be utilized during library hours only, for three (3) hours per transaction. These items may not be taken out of the library. Requests for renewal must be made in person at the Circulation Desk, or by sending an email request from a valid campus email account to circulation@elms.edu, no fewer than five (5) minutes prior to the expiration of the borrowing period.

Open Reserves

These items may be taken out of the library. Borrowing periods range from:

  • One (1) day, to be returned or renewed on or before 12 noon the following day,
  • One (1) week, to be returned by the end of the seventh (7th) consecutive day.

Charge-out Procedures

When charging out reserve items, the borrower must produce a valid campus ID. Items will be charged out to the individual’s associated library account.

Overdue Items

The non-refundable fine for overdue reserve material is $5.00 per day, up to the cost of replacement of the borrowed item. A reserve item overdue for seven (7) days will be considered lost. The borrower will own the item and be billed for the difference between the accrued late charges and the cost of the item’s replacement. Sanctions may be applied by the Registrar or by Student Accounts until or unless a student’s library account is settled.
